Track 9
Uptown Boogie

I heard the strangest kind of music somewhere uptown the other day!
Sounded like lazy boogie woogie played in a diff'rent way.
Only a trumpet, a piano...a couple-a gentlemen singin'
The blues, the boogie woogie blues!

It had the sweetest syncopation, sending the chills right down my spine!
It was no ordinary music makin' that trumpet shine.
Better than Gershwin, or Porter...and all of the modern composers.
It's new...the boogie woogie blues!

Man alive! Hear that jive!
Can't get enough-a that solid stuff!
In the groove! Really smooth!
Never heard a rhythm like that before!

No never before in all the ages has there been music so divine.
They had a streamlined way of playin' set in a new design,
Only a trumpet, a piano...a couple-a gentlemen singin'
The blues...the boogie woogie blues!

Instrumental Interlude

Man alive! Hear that jive!
Can't get enough-a that solid stuff!
In the groove! Really smooth!
Never heard a rhythm like that before!

No never before in all the ages has there been music so divine.
They had a streamlined way of playin' in a new design!
A trumpet, piano...couple-a gentlemen singin'
The blues...the boogie woogie blues! Yeah!
